Antlers
«

We just started carrying these at the store, so I brought some home. I was shocked when even the chihuahuas took one for a chew. Oz has been working on his since Friday and not even a dent, and hes going at it pretty hard. So far no smell, stains, breaks or cracks.
Has anyone else given antlers to their dogs? How long do they last?
These ones are from a Canadian company called this & that, but I have seen them at Orvis and I think Gander mountain?

Ive seen them on K9cuisine.com and wondered about them. Let me know how long they hold up. Gunner and Britt can chew through almost anything, and now with the pups im going to need some serious teething toys.

I haven't ever seen them for sale around here, but would love to get my dogs some. My friend had a few for her lab and she said they lasted years. Her dad got found them while hunting though, and we don't ever hunt.

Antlers are awesome products for dogs. I would like to get some for mine, but they are usually kinda pricey as far as "bones" go and not sold in any of the stores around here (well, they do carry them where we get dog food, but they are only 6" long............not big enough).
I have a friend in AK who's used them for a few years and another in AL who's gotten them as well (her dog didn't like them but the neighbor dog loved them).
They last forever (well, not literally
)..............but at least a few years, leave no odor from chewing (like nasty rawhides and some bones can) and are humanely collected from deer farms in their annual shed. if you can get them with velvet on them, even better, but those are hard to find (and would be from a deer that died/was killed).

I totally forgot about an antler our Bud found. He loved that thing and it did last from the time he found it until he died, so must have been at least 5 years.
It was only about 6-8 inches and was perfect to fit between his paws while he chewed. He was not a Dane, ZooCrew, but still a lab/newf mix. Weighed about 120 and he did fine with it in case you re-think trying the ones you can get for your bubs again.
I am going to make a confession now - The antler was already bleached out when he found it. There was nothing on it and it didn't smell or anything. I couldn't imagine why he liked it so much. I actually touched it with my tongue
and if memory serves me, it was a bit salty. I had rinsed if off before doing so, so I don't think the salty taste came from Bud slobber.
One caution - they hurt like h - - - when you step on them barefoot.

Kind of like the boy's matchbox cars!!
Hmmm I have an antler shed we found in the woods, I might let the girls have at it.

Best prices I've found. Biggest, best antlers--just specify you have a GIANT HUGE breed and they will send you the biggest. My 4 girls each have one of the biggest. They love them--and they last amazingly long. No smell, no stain, nothing!
